Gameworld App Brings Private Luanti Game Worlds to Nextcloud

A new External App, Gameworld, allows parents and teachers to create private Luanti game worlds within their Nextcloud instances.

Gameworld enables the creation of private Luanti game worlds with a single click, facilitating controlled environments for children and students within a Nextcloud setup. The app integrates with Nextcloud Files for backups and utilizes Nextcloud Talk for communication within each world, ensuring data remains on the user’s server.

The application requires Nextcloud 33 to 35, AppAPI, a HaRP deploy daemon, and a Docker socket proxy, with a focus on security, restricting access and avoiding public server listings. Privileges are carefully managed, and users are cautioned about potential security implications related to Docker proxy access.

The developer is seeking a pilot program with a school or organization to test the app with a larger group, with plans to add Minecraft Java Edition and Steam game support in future versions. The current version supports up to eight players per world and offers interfaces in German, English, and French.
